Congratulations Danielle de Jesus
2011 Teacher of the Year!
Teacher of the Year
ECONOMICS TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD
For Excellence in Economic Education
Danielle de Jesus, a teacher at Maui High School, has participated in many professional development trainings to better equip her in teaching economics and financial literacy in the classroom. Most recently, she completed the Hawaii Council on Economic Education’s Economics & Leadership Cadre program demonstrating her commitment to integrating and engaging her students in real life economic practices.
As a dedicated professional, Dani has integrated many economic programs outside the normal curriculum to engage students. One of these includes the online personal finance game: Gen I Revolution as well as infusing economics into the college readiness program: Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID).
Dani not only shares that passion of teaching and learning with her students, but, as a part of professional development opportunities with HCEE, she has spent countless hours completing portfolios that depict her economics units and that include student work and assessments as well as reflective accounts of her pedagogy.
Through her teaching of economics at Maui High, Dani has increased her students’ ability to understand a variety of economic and financial concepts and is a worthy recipient of the 2011 Economics Teacher of the Year award.
The Economics Teacher of the Year Award is a $1,000 award presented to an outstanding elementary or secondary economic education teacher who has conducted an exemplary economics program and has encouraged the growth and development of an effective economic education program.
