Student benefits:
  • Learn economic concepts
  • Gain financial literacy and “real life” skills
  • Shadow mentors
  • Experience real-life business environments and practices
  • Develop relationships with influential business people
  • Participate in team final presentation

**School credit will be granted upon approval of principal

The Academy will accept a limited number of qualified high school students who have maintained a grade-point-average of 2.0 or above, have demonstrated a propensity for math or economics, and have provided the required entrance application items.  The Academy will provide the students with a 21st century classroom experience paired with accompanying field trips to reinforce concepts and theories learned in class. At the end of the Academy, students will collaborate with financial advisors to develop a personal financial plan, including college and career goals. They will present their plan to an audience of teachers, parents, sponsors and stakeholders as a project demonstrating their understanding of what they have learned.

The Academy will be hosted for the first year at Maryknoll School and will expand to other schools statewide. Qualifying students from Title 1 schools will be eligible to apply for scholarships to attend the Academy. Upon approval of their principal, students will earn a full credit to be applied to their high school graduation requirements. All students will gain economic education, financial literacy education and exposure to real-life business environments and practices, and will develop relationships that will benefit them when applying for internships and jobs.

*Please note that the dates of the academy are intended to meet the hours needed to receive school credit and may be subject to change in order to meet these requirements.
