International Economics Summit TM

A World Simulation for High School Students

REGISTRATION HAS BEEN EXTENDED to March 9, 2012!

The Hawaii Council on Economic Education, in partnership with The Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco (FRBSF), offers a two day workshop focusing on international economics.  The first day of the workshop offers teacher training in the International Economics Summit (IES) program. The second day of the Summit will feature speakers from the Federal Reserve, FBI, ING Direct, and the DCCA Securities Commissioners Office on the topics of trade, fraud and international economics.   Please click here for more information on our speakers.

About IES:
The IES curriculum teaches basic economic concepts within the theme of international trade. While the program in its entirety is rather extensive and won't be covered in this particular training, the 13 individual lessons can be used independent of the program to help students understand concepts such as balance of payments, comparative advantage, opportunity costs and standard of living. The lessons utilize an experienced-based learning model as the foundation for the instructional process. During the training, teachers will participate in the experienced-based learning process just as their students will in the classroom.

Participating teachers will receive the following at no charge:

7 hours of Teacher Professional Development instruction
covering the use of standards-based economic concepts
   imbedded in the IES program
A Teacher Handbook containing the IES lessons

IES is a non-PD credit course and can be found on the PD3 website:  (https://pde3.k12.hi.us):
