27 - July 1: Enriching the Curriculum Through Economics - This course is designed to help elementary teachers understand the basic principles and concepts of economics to teach in grades K-6, support the Hawai`i Economics Content Performance Standards (HCPSII) in their instruction; learn ways to meet the economics criteria of the Standards-Based report card. In addition, teachers will learn ways to integrate economics with other subject areas such as language arts, life skills, and mathematics; and examine instructional materials and teaching strategies to teach economics in the elementary classroom. [ITE 588H (2 credits), Professional Development (2 credits)]

24: The Louisiana Expansion - The Louisiana Expansion is an interdisciplinary unit that will bring this historical event to life. The lessons in the unit offer a variety of teaching strategies and activities that address economics and social studies content and skills, communication skills and process skills. This workshop will examine the instructional materials, teaching strategies and participate in a demonstration lesson of the unit.
