As educators, we have an opportunity to inspire a generation of students who will serve as stewards of the limited resources of our island-based economies...

Join the Hawai`i Council on Economic Education and the Foundation for Teaching Economics at the Ilima Hotel for "The Right Start Institute" - a four-day residential program that which incorporates content, overviews, demonstration lectures, simulations and special topic discussions. The program's goal is to allow teachers who are new / beginning teachers of economics (three years economics teaching experience or less) to identify and learn basic economic content and develop lesson plans for effectively teaching the high school economics course.

COST: FREE!

The Foundation for Teaching Economics will cover all costs for lodging, registration, materials, and most meals. A $100 expense honoraria will be paid if lodging is not needed.

(Round-trip transportation to and from meeting site is the responsibility of the participant.)

OPTIONAL: * 2 Hawaii State DOE PD Credits Available. Visit the Professional Development Credit Program website to register for these credits. (Please use the Internet Explorer browser when visiting the site.) NOTE: Registering for the DOE PD Credits does not register you for the course. You must still complete the FTE application.

* 2 Semester Hours of Graduate Credits in Economics from Florida Gulf Coast University for $200. It is the sole responsibility of the individual teacher to make sure the credit arrangement you pursue meets the criteria set forth by your school, district, and the State of Hawai`i.

HOW TO APPLY: Completed applications including $100 refundable deposit (Payable to FTE) must be sent to the Hawaii Council on Economic Education. Download application in PDF format.
