Our Mission:
To
expand the Economic Literacy of Hawaii Students in
Grades K - 12 by improving teachers' knowledge of economics
and access to curriculum materials.
To increase the level of public understanding of economic
issues.
Our Vision:
A
State of Hawaii whose people have the knowledge, understanding,
and skills to make informed economic choices in their lives
and for their community.
The
Council achieves its vision by focusing on the teacher as
the key to Hawaii's economic literacy. Over the span of
a teacher's career, he or she can influence over 3,000 students.
This impact is truly significant.
Why
is it important to teach economics in grades K-12?
* The Hawaii Council on Economic Education is affiliated with
the National
Council on Economic Education - a nationwide network
that leads in promoting economic literacy with students
and their teachers. NCEE's mission is to help students develop
the real-life skills they need to succeed: to be able to
think and choose responsibly as consumers, savers, investors,
citizens, members of the workforce, and effective participants
in a global economy.
